Lizzy Tyler, center, of Oak Park, races north on Damen Avenue with her team Peep Show in the Chiditarod on March. 3, 2012, in Chicago. Tyler’s team of five spent two weeks decorating their cart and baking cookies, rice crispy treats and other baked goods to bribe the judges with. Last year they were awarded best bride, for their efforts. Tyler, in her third year racing in the event loves the costumed aspect, and raising money for charity. “I love anything that has to do with a costume,” Tyler said. “Last year I wore a muscle suit and a thong.” The annual Chicago-based race combines elements of the Alaskan Iditarod with social activism. It’s a food drive, part pub-crawl, and costumed race. This year’s race raised an estimated 25,000 pounds of food for Greater Chicago Food Depository & $35,000 for Growing Home, Inc.The Chiditarod draws together 800+ people, both participants and spectators. | Rob Hart~Sun-Times Media
