Water time

March 27th, 2013

Loyola Academy’s goalie Kyle Strobel was making some great saves as the Ramblers beat St. Ignatius 12-6. Water polo is usually a snooze to shoot but he was leaping all over the water stopping shots and made for great photos.

Ice time

March 26th, 2013

Does a relaxing Sunday for you include kneeling for hours on concrete steps sticking your camera through a hole in glass and shooting 3 hockey games? Yea neither does mine but you gotta love hockey at the United Center. The Blackhawk Cup is always fun and being in the right place at the right time at the UC is critical. The corner holes were eliminated years ago when Darryl Boyce lost his nose so unless you shoot through the thick glass or up high your vision of the rink is obstructed. Mondo Sanchez got a great photo of the win. Still an amazing day.

Teach your children well

November 27th, 2012

Last night Taylor Glascock spoke to my class about women in photojournalism so this morning I thought I’d start teaching Parker about it too. We looked at the work of Margaret Bourke-White, one of the greatest female photojournalists. Parker just wanted to eat the pages, so I think that means she liked the photos.

Tailgate

November 21st, 2012

As a group project for my Photojournalism class I teach at Medill we all descended on Soldier Field to document tailgate culture. Nine of my students spread out across the lots to make images of all the booze and sausages that accompany Bears games. It really was the perfect situation and they all worked their butts off. I didn’t shoot much, as it was nice to get out of the house and talk with other adults, but it was great. Getting to have a few beers with some of my favorite photographers after at the Billy Goat was a bonus.

Nü Media

November 10th, 2012

This fall I started teaching a Photojournalism course at the The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University while I’m on my paternity leave. It’s been an amazing experience so far. Last week we did some hands on learning with off camera flash. This is a group photo of four of my students. Tomorrow we’re doing a group essay on tailgate culture. I’m stoked.

I Wanna Hold My Baby

July 14th, 2012

The Rob Hart Photo team added a new muse July 10, when we welcomed Parker Mary Ella into the world. Weighing in at 9 lbs., 2 oz. and 22 inches long. Real photos are coming soon but the iPhone is just so much fun to shoot with. Tip of the cowboy hat to Onie Wheeler for being in my head in the hospital.

we fed her after midnight!

July 7th, 2012

Next week the Rob Hart Photo team is welcoming a baby girl into the mix. We were hanging out at at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park for the weekly classical music and picnic fix with numerous photographers and we roped Jason Brown into shooting a few photos of us. Next week on the blog baby + cat photos.

Cash + Kittens

March 16th, 2012

2 great things happened in one day. Brian Cash Valentin modeled my new kitten t-shirt he bought for me with Tamara Bell. Then we drank, arguably, one of the finest beers ever made. Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout.

“This Founders KBS is like drinking melted dragon cheese that fell off of one of God’s nachos.” – Kevin Buist (@KevinBuist)

We also had a mighty fine Secret Stache Stout from Finch’s Beer Company.
