Andrew + Melissa May 29th, 2011
Yesterday our friends Andrew and Melissa got married!!! Here’s a sneak preview.
The fact we budgeted so much time allowed for us to wander the city, and make fun portraits before the storms rolled in. It was a great day and party. Allison Williams shot with me and my wife, Christine, also made photos, fixed the dress, and assisted like a champ. It’s not every wedding that you get invited to an after party on a yacht. Yes, you read that right.

Linger on, your pale blue eyes July 22nd, 2010
It was good what we did yesterday.
And I’d do it once again.
The fact that you are married,
Only proves, you’re my best friend.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes. – Lou Reed

There are millions of songs about love, but very few songs about adult love. The come home and make dinner kind of love. The clean the litter box and do the laundry kind of love. Yet every time I listen to Gram Parsons do “Blue Eyes” it makes me smile and cry. The Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes” does it too. Both songs deal with the complexity of love and relationships and a woman with those blue eyes. The kind that even when you blow the exposure still are there. Although Lou could have been singing about a guy, but we’re getting off topic.
July 22, 2000, I married my BFF. In the last ten years we’ve had a lot of great days. To have someone who is both supportive and critical is important to accomplish anything important. She keeps me honest and I keep her from going sane. This year we both made reservations for the exact same time at the same restaurant to surprise each other. Although Christine did it months ago.
If you’ve ever been to a wedding you’ve heard 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. I hear it many, many, many times every summer. We had my Aunt Joni read it at our wedding. It’s the final part that still gets me. “It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Always preserves. Maybe it rings true because so much of our life is spent trying to preserve who we are or were. I make photos to try and hold on to something that is impossible to hold on to. To help the memory linger on.
It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Ten years in and it’s still so much fun, and always will be. Proof? Here’s some flicks from the IPPA gallery show where I exhibited some work, including a photograph of my grandparents who were married for almost 64 years.
This is where Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys come in and say it all. You still believe in me.

So here’s my other favorite love songs that I couldn’t work into the prose.
Daniel Johnston – True Love Will Find You in the End
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – You Really Got A Hold On Me
Sam Cooke – Bring It On Home To Me
Frank Sinatra – Makin’ Whoopee

Wedding self portraits October 5th, 2009
I have a collection of images of myself shot using the windows at weddings in my downtime. It’s kinda nerdy, I know, but ingesting cards is super boring. So if you see me shooting photos out a window with a strobe going off come over and get your picture took with me.

5th Floor Photography September 9th, 2009
Last year I sold my share of the Hart & Brown Photography business I built with my friend Jason Brown. Shooting weddings is a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. Jason wanted to take the business full time and he’s killing it. So just when I thought I’d retire and spend some time this summer with my wife I was asked to join a new venture, 5th Floor Photography, led by Chase Agnello-Dean. (check out his snazzy headshot here)
We’ve got a great lineup of photographers in Joel Wintermantle and Brian Morowczynski I’m very excited to start documenting awesome weddings for clients that are into great photography.
Check out 5th Floor’s blog. Follow us on twitter or fan us on facebook.

Tim & Char Grand Island, MI. 08.05.2009 August 8th, 2009

This week I had the pleasure of heading up to Grand Island, MI to photograph Tim & Char Galloway’s wedding. It was a beautiful and intimate ceremony on the beach with some very cool people. I look at the photographs from my wedding every day, and feel it’s a great responsibility to help direct the memories of a great event in the lives of the bride and groom. Thanks to Tim and Char for being patient, fun, and so full of love for each other. You guys rock!

Dan and Cressie and Diesel April 18th, 2009
This morning I photographed some engagement portraits for Dan & Cressie in the courtyard of her parents condo in the West Loop. Their awesome dog, Diesel, joined us for the shoot. The wedding is in June and my little brother, Ryan, is a groomsman. Dan and I were both groomsmen in Ryan’s wedding in 2007 where we perfected a dance now know as the “Fernando Rodney.” Needless to say, it’s going to be some fun. The real Hart & Brown Photography gallery will be up shortly. Here’s a preview of the action.
